Bottle Biome Week 8

The biome feels so empty now that we have lost our fish. Other than the fish dying, there has not been much change in the biome. There is still precipitation, showing that the water cycle is in action. After putting our fish in the top section, it seems like it almost hurt the biome. The grass is slight shorter and overall just doesn’t look that healthy.

Bottle Biome Week 7

Today has been a sad day in Aquatic Science. On October 18, 2019, our fish passed away. Although the fish was not looking healthy earlier this week, somebody (not finna snitch) gave her food to see if that would help. Unfortunately, we believe that caused an ammonia spike in the biome which led to its death. On the bright side, we gave her an official burial on the soil portion of our biome where it will decompose and provide nutrients to the plants… The Circle of Life!!

Bottle Biome Week 6

After another week, not much has changed in the biome. There is still a good amount of precipitation although the water levels have not changed much. The grass is about the same length and color. The biggest noticeable change is the fish, who’s colorization is different and it is also laying at the bottom (probably just getting some rest).

Bottle Biome Week 5

There has not been much change in the bottle Biome this past week. The grass is still the same height at about 4-5 inches and is still the same color. The water levels have not changed and there is still a lot of precipitation on the inside of the bottle, indicating that the water cycle is in motion. The fish still seems to be doing good, and its behavior has not changed much. He does look a little hungry though.

Bottle Biome Week 4

In the past week, not much has changed about our bottle biome. There was not much change in the grass height, but it is slightly greener. The water level is slightly less than before, and there is the same amount of precipitation on the inside of the bottle. Our fish is still doing good, he remains pretty active.

Dragon Fly Reflection

Today we had to create a community surrounding a lake with a river running through it. This community included houses, a farm, a bleach factory, a gas station, and different restaurants and other things. Before setting the community up, we had to think about the interests each establishment would have and how it would affect the water around it. To prevent as much pollution as possible, we learned it would be best to keep the highway, bleach factory, and farm away from the river because they all have ways to pollute the surrounding water.

Bottle Biome Week 3

The first thing we noticed is that there is much less water in the bottom section, and a lot more precipitation on the inside of the bottle. This shows that the water cycle has officially begun. The grass has also grown significantly (at about 4 inches tall). Now the most important part: our fish. She is currently still living and thriving. At this point she is probably very hungry, but she’s hanging in there so creds to her.

Bottle Biome

Today we started to create our bottle biome. We first cut two, 2 liter bottles at the top and bottom. On the bottom bottle, we added gravel (more to just weight it down) and water. In the top bottle we added soil, grass seeds, and alfalfa seeds. To connect the two bottles, there is a string that will provided the water to the plants. In the bottom water section we plan to add a fish (most likely a beta because it’s chances of survival are high. Since the biome is completely closed off, we don’t have to worry about evaporation and such.

Fish Picking

Today we got to decide which fish we are going to use for our aquariums. My group decided on a variety of fish, including some algae eaters. We thought it would be a good idea to include algae eaters in our aquarium because they will help keep the tank clean. The fish we have selected should not be too expensive or too hard to maintain.
